You won’t choke on this fishbone!

May 8th, 2007

The Ishikawa or “Fishbone” Diagram provides a useful problem-solving template for considering a variety of possible causes.

The end-result or problem is in the box to the far right and the potential causes on the small bones.

The large bones represent major areas of investigation.

The diagram help a problem solving facilitator collect and organize a group’s ideas. Each idea can be investigated and crossed off the list until the root cause is identified.

Here is an example and a blank template for your use. Any questions or comments? Let me know. Ishikawa Diagram.ppt
