Statistics for Experimenters - Box, Hunter and Hunter
Unquestionably the best book of its kind. This book takes statistical tools and applies them to real-world examples and makes the use of experimental design FUN! I learned from the best, J. Stuart Hunter, who autographed my copy, which has been drenched in water and coffee, dog-eared and underlined.

The question posed at gapingvoid: “How well does Open Source currently meet the needs of shareholders and CEOs?”
Answer: Not too well. Why? Self-preservation.
The majority of CEO’s pin the risk-averse needle in the red zone! Their primary goal, to keep their well compensated positions secure and make it to the platinum parachute of their retirement. Face it. Few would qualify under the heading of entrepreneur. This is not to slam today’s generation of CEO’s, rather just an acknowledgment of the environment in which they exist: short-term results to satisfy short-term results oriented institutional investors. And no one has ever been fired for taking the Microsoft path. Open source….hmm….?
Regarding individual shareholders (let’s exclude those holding options), most of them reside so far away from the details of the business that the question about open source holds no meaning for them.
